Bioflavonoids
Bioflavonoids, sometimes referred to simply as flavonoids, are compounds produced in plants that have beneficial biological activities for the human body. Flavonoids are polyphenols with similar basic chemical structures. Some pigments give many fruits and vegetables their bright colors. Flavonoids, including resveratrol, procyanidins, quercetin and catechins, may be at least partly responsible for the health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. All of these compounds are powerful antioxidants that destroy free radicals. They also inhibit tumor growth, help prevent inflammation and reduce the likelihood of blood clots, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. They can also boost the immune system and help you avoid allergic reactions and infections, as well as prevent or lower high blood pressure and lower your risk of developing certain cancers.
